This Is My Life! Supporting Self-Determination

This Is My Life!  Supporting Self-Determination: The independence of individuals with autism spectrum disorder and related disabilities can be supported by directly teaching critical skills, such as setting goals and making choices.  Teaching these self-determination skills will help students not only while they are in school, but also when they exit high school into college and work.  This beginner-level workgroup will overview self-determination, review strategies, and highlight resources to support students to make decisions and advocate for themselves.

Presenter: Julie D. Riley, M.Ed, BCBA, LASARD Project, LSUHSC Human Development Center
