Education and Training

We believe that every parent or guardian has a responsibility to become the best advocate they can be for their child with a disability.  This requires alot of education and training on the state and federal laws and bulletins that ensure children with disabilites receive appropriate educational services in their least restrictive environment, live in their community, work, recreate and become valued members of their communities.  FHF of Jefferson offers monthly trainings on topics that will help you become the best advocate you can be.   There are three ways to participate in our trainings:

  1. In Person – you can attend a live training with others (check calendar for training dates)
  2. Webinars – you can participate in a live webinar from the comforts of your own home, during your lunch hour at work or anywhere you are with a computer and phone.   (check calendar for training dates)
  3. Self Directed – Several of our trainings are on line for you to use at your own leisure and pace.  They are available 24/7.

Students achievement is greater if their parents participate in our trainings.

In addition to the above trainings, once a year we bring you inclusionMATTERS, our statewide conference on inclusive education.  We bring in the best presenters from around the country to present on topics of great interest.  This conference is held during the National Inclusive School Week in December.

We are very appreciative of our local, state and federal partners that provide funding for our trainings.  This includes Jefferson Parish Human Services Authority, Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, Louisiana Department of Education, Louisiana Office of Public Health and the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs.
