Dream Comes Closer to Reality

Mom and DaughterMom’s Letter:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Thuy Nguyen and Steven Nguyen, FHF staff at  Children’s Special Health Services – Family Resources Center at Children’s Hospital of New Orleans   In September of 2013, my daughter was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer.  Although Tia is cancer-free she is mostly limited to a wheelchair, as a result of her surgery.

With everything Tia has gone through she never gave up on her dream of being able to help others. Through meeting Thuy and Steven of Children’s Special Health Services – Family Resources Center, that dream came closer to being a reality.

Thuy put us in touch with different organizations that help children receive the resources and help needed based on their disabilities.  Because of the time and effort they put into my daughter, Tia is now a freshman at Xavier University of Louisiana majoring in Sociology.  I am so thankful for their help and hope other families take advantage of these opportunities that are there for our children.

Again, thank you so much, Thuy and Steven and the entire Children’s Special Health Services – Family Resource Center.

Daughter’s Letter:

I am so thankful for CSHS and december Ssuccess Storyeverything they have done for me. After my surgery, my life changed drastically, and neither I nor my parents were prepared for the changes. For a while, we would go day by day hoping that there wouldn’t be too many bumps in the road. And then one day, while I was in physical therapy, I was introduced to Steven, who told us about CSHS. Once we set up to meet in their offices, they got started right away: suggesting things to make daily life easier, how we can get financial support, who we have to go through to get certain help, and much more advice. Before I meet with them, I wasn’t sure of what I wanted to do or if I even wanted to go to college, and if I did choose to go, what did I need to be accommodated, but now I am a freshman in college and I couldn’t have done it without their help.
