Louisiana Deafblind Project for Children and Youth – The U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs funds the Louisiana Deafblind Project for Children and Youth (LA DBP). This education technical assistance program is one of over 50 such programs across the nation.  The LA DBP provides technical assistance to students with combined hearing and vision losses (birth – age 22 years) and to their families, teachers, schools, and school systems. Our presenter Dr. Michael Norman, is the Director of the LA DBP and will discuss deafblindness, associated disorders, incidence and identification, and services and supports provided to the children and youth with combined hearing and vision losses in Louisiana.

Section 504, Title 11 and Students with Disabilities - Section 504 is a federal law designed to protect the rights of individuals with disabilities in programs and activities that receive Federal financial assistance from the U.S. Department of Education (ED). Section 504 provides: "No otherwise qualified individual with a disability in the United States . . . shall, solely by reason of her or his disability, be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.  Learn more about this civil rights law.
